Minneapolis Brachioplasty – Why the Sudden Increase in Arm Lift Surgeries?Published on May 30, 2013 by Hoffman, James
A recent report released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) revealed that arms lifts have increased to about 4,738 percent since 2000. Last year, there were roughly 15,000 brachioplasties done all over America, very far from the 338 arm lifts done 12 years ago. Dr. James Hoffman, a highly experienced Minneapolis arm lift specialist, says the arm lift procedure, which removes excess fat and skin in the upper arms, is also growing in popularity in his Minneapolis plastic surgery practice.
What’s Fueling the Surge?
While diet and exercise are proven to effectively lose the extra pounds, one of the most difficult body areas to tone are your arms. Individuals who recently experience massive weight loss often find themselves stuck with saggy arms, often referred to as the “bat wings”. So why the sudden increase in arm lift surgeries?
“Women are paying more attention to their arms in general and are becoming more aware of options to treat this area,” ASPS president Dr. Gregory Evans stated in this press release.
The press release further pointed out that there’s no sole reason for such increase but majority of the plastic surgeons agree that media exposure may have played a role in the surge. A poll by ASPS further revealed that women who want to undergo arm lift surgeries are inspired by celebrities with well-toned arms such as Michelle Obama, Jennifer Aniston, Demi Moore, Jessica Biel and Kelly Ripa.
Preparing for Your Minneapolis Arm Lift
Preparation is one of the most important factors influencing the outcome of your Minneapolis arm lift. Prior to surgery, you will be asked to do the following:
A thorough review of your medical history as well as a complete physical assessment will be ordered. This will determine whether you are fit for surgery.
You will be asked to quit smoking 2 to 3 weeks before the procedure. Smoking will most likely lead to a delay in healing.
Avoid medications which fall under the anti-inflammatory drugs classification like aspirin as well as herbal supplements such gingko biloba. These treatments have substances which could lead to bleeding problems.
Prepare ahead of time and follow instructions on what needs to be available/done post-procedure such as medications and stocking up your pantry with nutritious and healing foods.
