Liposuction
Conveniently located to serve Minneapolis, St. Paul and Woodbury
Have you been thinking about getting liposuction? It’s a fact that there are areas in the body where fat is deposited that you cannot get rid of by simply exercising or dieting. This causes frustration among our patients in St. Paul, Minneapolis because despite all the hard work they put into working out in the gym and restricting themselves from eating their favorite food, the results don’t equal the effort and they are still left to deal with stubborn fat that will not go away.
Dr. James A. Hoffman recommends liposuction for his patients in St. Paul, Minneapolis who want to get rid of the stubborn fat deposits fast! Liposuction has been around for many years now, but until today, this is the preferred method of reshaping the body because it is safe and effective. This is a time-tested body sculpting technique that is guaranteed to deliver a slimmer and younger body contour. Liposuction is not limited to remove fat in the abdomen and thighs. It can also be used on other parts of the body like the neck, arms, chest, buttocks, back, ankles, and calves. It can virtually be used on any part of the patient’s body, which has fat deposits that are resistant to exercise and diet.
Your Liposuction will be performed in Dr. Hoffman’s surgery center located in Woodbury, MN, just outside of Minneapolis and St. Paul.

What happens during liposuction?
In his pursuit to deliver only the best care for his patients in St. Paul, Minneapolis, Dr. Hoffman utilizes the best liposuction techniques in removing fat so you can be assured that you will achieve the body contours that you have always dreamed of.
- Traditional liposuction techniques involve the use of a cannula tube that will be inserted through tiny incisions made on the skin. The cannula will be used to break down the fat in areas that need sculpting and the fat will later be suctioned out resulting in a smoother and leaner body surface.
- Tumescent liposuction involves introducing large amounts of lidocaine and epinephrine into the treatment area. When injected directly into the fatty tissue, these substances provides the same anesthetic function of general anesthesia and eliminates the need for a patient to get one thereby decreasing the risk factors of the procedure. Tumescent liposuction will then proceed using the sculpting techniques used in traditional liposuction.
- Ultrasound assisted liposuction – this is the latest in liposuction technology and is becoming more and more popular among our patients in St. Paul, Minneapolis because it’s the least invasive among the 3 types. Using the benefits of ultrasound energy, this procedure breaks down the fat easily, which makes the suctioning of the fat easier. Using this technique makes the procedure less stressful for the patient’s body and results in less downtime.
I love my new body
Dear Dr. Hoffman and Nica, I want to thank you for the special care and extra time I was given. It’s not that common in today’s pace to have the TLC. I fit in clothes I haven’t worn in years and this summer I wore a bikini. I love my “new body”. Sincerely yours,Theresa M.
Recovering from Liposuction
There will be some bruising, swelling, and discomfort. A compression garment may need to be worn during your recovery and over the counter medication can be used to help manage pain. Post-operative instruction will be provided.
Does Fat Come Back After Liposuction?
You are born with a given number of fat cells. The fat cells you have can get bigger or smaller depending on your weight. During liposuction we reduce the number of fat cells in those areas that are genetically predisposed for fat deposition. Once the fat cells are removed from those areas, they are gone forever. Liposuction is a means of contouring the body and selectively reducing areas to give you the most proportionate and attractive shape possible.
Maintaining Your Result
The key to maintaining the results of your liposuction is a combination of a healthy diet and exercise. Weight gain can occur after liposuction if the patient does not maintain a healthy lifestyle. If you eat a diet high in carbohydrates and fats, commonly known as junk food, weight gain can occur. Remember, an adult does not produce more fat cells, but the fat cells you have can get larger.
Prior to and following your liposuction procedure, you should change your lifestyle in terms of diet and exercise in order to maintain optimal results. It is not uncommon for patients from whom we have removed 5 to 7 pounds of fat by liposuction, to return to my office six months later having lost an additional 5 to 10 pounds with appropriate nutrition and exercise
