blepharoplasty-thumb Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery or an eye lift, with Dr. Hoffman in Minneapolis St. Paul can help patients who wish to correct and repair their droopy eyelids. For patients in St. Paul, Minneapolis, a blepharoplasty involves removing any excess skin, muscle tissue, and fat tissue in the eyelids.

How aging affects the appearance of your eyes

Same as the other areas of the body, the structural support in the underlying tissues of the eyelids becomes weak as a person ages. This results in the loss of skin elasticity and causes the fat and excess skin to accumulate below the eyelids which makes it droop. Patients can look tired and old because of this condition even if they are well into their 30s. Aside from having a huge impact on your appearance, in severe cases, a drooping eyelid can sometimes impair your eyesight. A blepharoplasty can easily address these concerns and can provide our patients with a younger and fresher appearance.

Who can benefit from Blepharoplasty in St. Paul, Minneapolis?

In his years of practice in St. Paul, Minneapolis, Dr. James Hoffman has seen numerous cases that were easily resolved by a blepharoplasty procedure. If a droopy eyelid makes it difficult for you to open or lower your eyelid then you might want to consider getting upper blepharoplasty, also known as upper eyelid surgery. Lower blepharoplasty, also known as eye bag surgery, is recommended for patients with puffy and baggy upper and lower eyelids. A blepharoplasty can also be a good solution for patients who have eyelids that droop so low that they show too much of the white of their eyes. These conditions can make a person look old and weary, and blepharoplasty can combat these normal signs of aging and help patients achieve the youthful appearance they have always wanted. Your Blepharoplasty will be performed in Dr. Hoffman’s surgery center located in Woodbury, MN, just outside of Minneapolis and St. Paul.

Your Consultation

The first step in an eyelid lift is a consultation with Dr. Hoffman. This will allow Dr. Hoffman to learn more about what the patient wants to achieve through the procedure and the current condition of the patient’s eyelids. Details such as the patient’s health will be discussed during the consultation, which can involve evaluating their complete medical history. Allergies, past procedures, current medications, and any pre-existing conditions may all be discussed. During the visit, patients can feel free to ask any questions that they may have regarding the procedure in order to be better informed before proceeding. Information such as the steps they can take to prepare for their eyelid lift will be provided, as well.

What is involved in blepharoplasty surgery?

While it is customary for a blepharoplasty procedure to be done in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures like a brow lift, face and neck lifts, as well as skin resurfacing procedures; an eyelid procedure can also be performed as a solo procedure. When done alone, blepharoplasty procedures can do wonders in taking years off a patient’s face.

Your session

Once the patient is made comfortable, anesthesia will be applied. The session can take several hours, depending on the state of the eyelids and what the patient wants to achieve. Very small incisions will be made to provide access for the removal of excess skin and fat. The muscles in the region may also be tightened. Once all required changes have been made, the incisions are then closed. Sterile bandages will then be applied to the affected areas, and the patient will be allowed to rest.

What can patients expect after a blepharoplasty?

On average, blepharoplasty performed in our office in St. Paul, Minneapolis lasts about 2 hours on an outpatient basis. Our patients can experience very minimal post-operative pain and prescriptions for pain medication will be provided to manage this. It is common to see some swelling around the eyes following a blepharoplasty procedure, but the swelling and bruising will dissipate within a few days. Most patients are able to return to work after around 10 days of recovery. The entire recovery period can take around two months, after which your full results should be visible.

What is the cost of Blepharoplasty?

The cost will vary between patients based on their aesthetic needs, the techniques used to perform the procedure, and other factors. Financing options are available to make the payment process more manageable.
