Your Face Needs a Makeover! But Which Procedure to Choose?Published on October 21, 2013 by Hoffman, James
According to the annual statistics by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), there were roughly 10 million surgical and non-invasive cosmetic procedures done by board-certified surgeons in 2012. Here at our Minneapolis plastic surgery practice, we have a lot of clients who have made the decision to cosmetically enhance their appearance but are still not sure about which procedure to choose. As much as possible, we help them choose the best procedure during their personal consultation with Dr. Hoffman.
Surgical vs. Non-Surgical
Choosing between surgical and non-surgical options for your face makeover largely depends on the following factors:
Length of time available for preparation and recovery
Your Options in a Face Makeover
1. Facelift vs. Injectables
A facelift is ideal in firming up excess, loose skin and reverse the effects of gravity. On the other hand, injectables are ideal for plumping up hollowed areas, lifting jowls, and reducing further wrinkle formation.
2. Brow Lift vs. Botox
Both procedures could be used to reduce the appearance of forehead wrinkles. A brow lift could reduce the appearance of horizontal lines and soften deep creases while Botox and its derivatives like Dysport and Xeomin work by relaxing the muscles which contribute to wrinkle formation.
3 Eyelid Lift vs. Fillers
An upper eyelid lift could make you look less sad by removing sagging skin and fat. On the other hand, a lower eyelid lift could correct eye bags, dark circles under the eyes, droopiness, and excess skin. If you wish to reduce such problems without going under the knife, you might want to consider dermal fillers such as Restylane.
4. Cheek Implants/Fillers vs. Own Fat
For more pronounced cheekbones, you have the option to either choose cheek implants/fillers or use your own fat. The use of one’s own fat is often used in conjunction with a facelift.
