It looks like the plastic surgery industry does not have any plans of slowing down. Published in The Huffington Post last January 31, 2013 and several web sources, the ISAPS International Survey on Aesthetic/Cosmetic Procedures revealed the countries with the most number of tucks, lifts, peels, jabs and fillers for 2011. Licensed surgeons, such as Minneapolis board certified plastic surgeon Dr. James Hoffman, from various nations were surveyed. Of the 20,000 plastic surgeons surveyed worldwide, 431 U.S. plastic surgeons took part in the survey.

Astonishing Results
While it may not be surprising to find out that the United States ranked first for the most number of cosmetic surgeries performed, it is entirely a different story when it comes to the most number of cosmetic procedures done in proportion to a country’s population. South Korea tops the list when it comes to the most number of procedures per 1000 population. Greece, Italy, the United States and Colombia completes the top 5 countries with the most number of tucks, lifts and peels when population is taken into account.

Popular Cosmetic Procedures for 2011
In a related report published in The Economist, lipoplasty tops the list of the most popular invasive procedure worldwide. “The most popular invasive (ie, surgical) operation is fat removal, or lipoplasty, reflecting a growing problem for a fattening world. Breast augmentation, the second biggest surgical procedure, is most commonly performed in America and Brazil. Buttock implants are also a Brazilian specialty, as is vaginal rejuvenation. Asia is keen on nose jobs: China, Japan and South Korea are among the top five nations for rhinoplasty,” The Economist report revealed.

All in all, the top 5 worldwide surgical procedures performed by plastic surgeons in 2011 are the following:
1. Lipoplasty
2. Breast Augmentation
3. Blepharoplasty
4. Abdominoplasty
5. Rhinoplasty

On the other hand, the top 5 worldwide non-surgical procedures by plastic surgeons in 2011 are the following:
1. Botulinum Toxin Type A (Botox and Dysport)
2. Hyaluronic Acid
3. Laser Hair Removal
